Billa (2007) Oabs Xclusive Review!

Dec-14-the D-day in tamil cinema industry,yep it’s the release of the much awaited movie
‘BILLA 2007’ starring ultimate star ajith kumar,glamour gal nayanthara and namitha ;) .
Thanks to Manoj prabhakar(spike@WTF) we managed to get second show tickets at satyam…The entrance of the theatre was thronging with people from all bases…after all ajith is known as the KING OF OPENING!, so no surprises….we somehow managed to squeeze ourselves in and waited at the edge of our seats anticipating the start!...The movie did start on schedule and the screams and whistles announced the arrival of thala-billa on silver screen!!.

Ajith looks super cool sporting striking costumes and coolers.The crowd goes wild for every move and his stylish ramp walk(with theme as BGM).But u tend to lose temper after finding out that all he does is walking,shooting and no talking!,Yep there aren’t many punch dialogues except one in which velu(billas dupe) mentions bout ‘THALA’.Velu,billas dupe.is a simpleton and tries his hand at comedy with santhanam.but to no success.We felt santhanam has been wasted and he appears oly in 2 scenes!!.

Vishnu Vardhan hasn’t much deviated from his blue-print-the original billa but the packaging and richness is appealing.Though some characters from original billa are missing and few new ones are added!. Billa is the first designer-look Kollywood film with classy action cuts. It's a technically chic, racy, engrossing entertainer with a Hollywood look. Vishnu and Ajit are targeting only the multiplex audiences and they are quite honest about it. Yuvan’s title track and theme music is one of the highlights of the film, though the songs fall flat! The re-mix title song My name is Billa… is no patch on the original and lacks its fervor, while the other re-mix number Vethalaiya Pottendi… has a good beat that makes you dance and is well shot The only mass number is Seval Kodi.., with Vijay Yesudas’s striking voice.But the dance sequence for it disappoints!.

The gorgeous Nayan as Sasha is a show stopper and no Tamil heroine has looked so glamorous on screen in recent times, thanks to her right attitude and stylist Anu Vardhan. Nayanthara has decided to go full throttle to look her sexiest best in sizzling hot micro-mini shorts!!!!, leather jacket, tall boots! and full ammunition!.On the contrary namitha with her excess fat and mini skirts scares us at times…there isn’t much scope for here in the movie,just a dance sequence few dialogue and bang she dies!!

BILLA 2K7 is old billas script in SRK DON’s suit.

Editor's note:I met with cricketer DINESH KARTHICK today morning in a temple and got a chance to chat for 20 odd minutes.The temple was sans crowd!!(obviously!).His opinion on the movie ‘was not bad.but it resembles DON more’.

Bottom-line:Treat for hard-core thala fans.Can be enjoyed once at a multiplex.
